his life time

Before his acting debut, Jang led an ordinary life. He graduated from the first class of the Korean National University of Arts, which was just established and before the school's reputation for excellence in the performing arts was as high as it is today. It was also known as the "Jang Dong-gun School" because of Jang Dong-gun, who entered the school the same year.

After graduating, Jang spent some time on the sidelines before appearing in the
2001 MBC sitcomLoversHe made his TV debut in 2001 as Lee Yoon-sung's younger brother in the MBC sitcom "Lovers. Despite his role as the younger brother in the drama, he gained attention as a hidden scene stealer with his comedic performance as a troublemaker who would make snide remarks to his sister's friends and engage in troublemaking behavior such as secretly stealing and spending his sister's money. "It was easy for me to act because it was so similar to my own life when I was a penniless person at the time of filming," Lee later said. The buzzword at the time was "Oh, so what?"

However, due to the image that was imprinted on him from the sitcom, he was limited in casting for medium-length films, and for a while he focused on one-act plays. In the early to mid-2000s, during the
heyday of one-act plays, he frequently appeared in one-act plays such as Best
Theater and Drama City, establishing himself as an actor. In particular, the four Drama City productions "Doctor Love" and "Translucent" in 2004, and "Yeonae" and "How to Love a Spider Woman" in 2005, show a new side of Lee Sun-gyun, who had been overshadowed by his recent serious roles. The drama "Nangrang 18," which starred Han Ji-hye and Lee Dong-gun, was actually made into a miniseries due to the popularity of a Drama City production starring Lee Seon-gyun and Han Hye-jin. Lee Seon-gyun was quite a popular actor in one-act dramas, so it's easy to find videos of him even now. If you're a fan of Lee Seon-gyun, you should at least watch "Translucent" and "Yeon-ae". The quality of the drama is very good, but you can see the extremes of his cheesy acting.

In 2007, Lee was a forgettable actor until his breakout role inWhite Tower's successful portrayal of Choi Do-young. The contrast of his successful transformation from a spoiled brat to a serious-minded internist was a major turning point in his career, and he went on to play the role inCoffee Prince No. 1", "Pasta", and "Golden Time" all became successful dramas, solidifying his position. Although his movie career was sluggish for a while, he made a comeback with roles in films such as "Cheesy Romance" andArrested Developmentand The Arrested King, he was able to achieve some box office success. In 2012, he starred in火车and All About My Wife in 2012.

 His
trademark is his voice, which he says he doesn't like very much because it has a stuffy tone. Sometimes his voice doesn't convey emotions properly. He overcomes this with his acting skills, but in reality, the reaction to Lee's voice is quite mixed. On the contrary, many people say that the rumbling bass makes it difficult for him to deliver his lines. It's said that his pronunciation is muffled, which is really a fatal flaw. In fact, many people don't realize it, but like Kwon Sang-woo, he also has a weak 'short tongue sound'. You can see this by listening carefully to his pronunciation of '', '', and ''. These pronunciations, combined with his characteristic bass voice, sometimes make his lines hard to understand.[13] Same case with Lee Byung-heon. Aside from that, there aren't many people who tackle him. It's a double-edged sword because most people who don't like Lee Sun-gyun find his voice to be stifling and unrealistic. However, it is definitely a good voice. ParasiteAfter the box office success of "Parasite," foreign audiences also praised Lee Sun-gyun's voice as hot, so it seems to be a honeyed voice that works internationally. He is known to be a great lover.

He is regarded as an actor who shows a stable style in a wide range of roles, from hard-edged drama to romantic comedy. In particular, he has a unique ability to maximize the charm of his co-stars. Whether it's a movie or a drama, Lee's success in romantic comedies shows that he is able to take a defensive stance and let the other actor show off their charms to the fullest, while balancing the whole scene with a sense of realism. This is most evident in
"
All About
 My
Wife
," which features not one, but two truly unusual characters, and between Lim
Soo-jeong and Ryu Seung-ryong, he manages to deliver convincing performances without losing balance. Thanks to this trait, he is often called upon for roles that require subtlety to support the lead, rather than overwhelming performances.

On the other hand, in the case of Jeong Pyo-geukTrain
, he has the strength to go out on his own and the ability to adapt to the director. Director Byun Young-joo was grateful that Lee Sun-gyun accepted all of his demands for equipment rental fees during the budget-constrained filming of "Fire Truck. There were many episodes such as shooting multiple shots with a single camera when they needed to use multiple cameras, and when they rented expensive equipment, they ignored the emotional line of the movie and shot the parts where the equipment was used first. In the case of "Freight Train," the budget constraints were so severe that the main actors signed contracts to receive half of their salaries after the movie was released.
Contrary to the above, the actors are known for their irritating performances, which is especially evident in the
movie "All the Way to the End". For his performance in "All the Way to the End," he won the 2015 Baeksang Arts Award for Best Actor in a Movie, along with his co-star Jo Jin-woong.

In the 2018 drama "My Uncle," he plays Park Dong-hoon, an uncle who struggles with the weight of life. The drama not only proved to be an outstanding work by winning the TV drama and writing awards at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards, but is also considered a well-made masterpiece drama that received favorable reviews both at home and abroad.

In 2019, Bong Joon-ho's filmParasitedirected by Bong Joon-ho, where he received favorable reviews for his performance as President Park. Although he had previously attended international film festivals with films directed by Hong Sang-soo, this was his first time on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, Parasite has been at the peak of his career, as he participated in the Academy Awards with overwhelmingly favorable reviews and became a global phenomenon with box office success.

 However, in October
2023, he was suspected of taking drugs and was investigated by the police, and while the investigation was ongoing, on December 27, 2023, he took his own life inside a car parked in a street parking lot in Seongbuk Yehyangjae, Seongbuk-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, ending his life at the age of 48.

his death case

On October 19, 2023, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Department's Narcotics Crime Investigation Division announced that it is investigating eight people, including Mr. L, a man in his 40s who is a movie star,[2] for violations of the Narcotics Control Act.

The eight people, including Mr. L, an actor, an aspiring entertainer, a third-generation chaebol, and a manager and employee of an entertainment establishment, were suspected or accused of taking drugs at their residences and entertainment establishments on numerous occasions for about a year from January 2023.

The police received a tip that the drugs were being distributed in a Gangnam brothel while tracing the distribution route of the drugs brought in through Incheon Port, and during the investigation, it was discovered that the brothel employee[3] who was suspected of taking the drugs had contacted Mr. L several times. While Mr. L is still in the pre-investigation stage, the police have reportedly found no concrete evidence of drug use.

These reports drew public attention and, based on the reports of various media outlets, keywords such as "famous actor," "male in his 40s," "debuted in a drama sitcom in 2001," and "distinctive bass voice" raised suspicions that Mr. L was Lee Sun-gyun, a famous actor.
