"The worst of evil" (최악의 악)-> A crime action drama set in the 1990s about a police officer, Jun Mo, who goes undercover to take down the Gangnam Union, the center of the Korean-Chinese-Japanese drug trade.

It's a bit of a mixed bag, but the general consensus is that it's a lot of fun. The action is powerful and immersive, and the storyline is well-paced and well-crafted. The 1980s and 1990s Hong Kong noir look of the movie is particularly appealing.

The setting of a detective infiltrating a criminal organization is similar to the Mugando Trilogy, The Departed, and The New World, but unlike the aforementioned films, many people find it refreshing that the boss of the organization was the first love of the protagonist's wife.

 

The box office performance is also good. Within two weeks of its release, it was the number one Disney+ original Korean drama on FlixPatrol, and it also made the top 10 in six other countries, including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Turkiye.

The story begins with Ki-Cheol watching the back of a child as he drives away in a police car. Still wearing the necklace he received from his sister, he doggedly searches for information on Kwon Seung-Ho and Park Jun-Mo.

Surprised to learn that Eui-Jung's husband is a detective, Ki-Cheol questions Jun-Mo over his picture. The story becomes more suspenseful when Jun-mo's close senior figure at the police station makes suspicious movements.

While patrolling the Gangnam neighborhood, Jun mo spots a group of masked bongos. They appear to be out to get Ki Chul and launch a surprise attack, but with the help of Jun Mo and his fellow soldiers, Ki Chul manages to escape.

It's later revealed that the raid is the work of Busan's Chairman Song Dong-Hyeok. With Seung-Ho by his side, Ki-Cheol notices a change in his treatment within the organization. Do-hyung's intentions to use Jun-mo are revealed, and Jun-mo begins to have doubts about Do-hyung, who has been following him like a brother.

Ki-chul takes Jun-mo to Yeongdong Severance Hospital and suggests that they say hello to Eui-jeong. Jun-mo feels uncomfortable and decides to let Ki-chul go alone.

It turns out Song Dong-Hyeok's situation has been taken care of by his Japanese father. At Ki-Chul's night fishing, Jun-Mo tries to get into Ki-Chul's room by punching in the password and peeking at his secrets.

Jun-mo finds a film camera and discovers another room hidden inside, whose password is Eui-jeong's birthday, which irritates Ki-chul. Meanwhile, Hee-Sung and Jeong-Bae find a police flashlight, which raises questions.

Jun-Mo wakes up Kwon Seung-Ho and brings him to where Cho Dae-Ri is, wondering if this is the place to kill him. Ki-Cheol demands they stop playing around and finish the job, handing Jun-Mo a gun and demanding he finish the job.

Jun-mo reluctantly takes the gun, but eventually puts it down. After a moment of silence, he raises the gun once more. Who he points the gun at adds to the tension of the drama.


Jun-Mo tries to gain Ki-Cheol's trust by conspiring with Do-Hyeong, but Ki-Cheol is not one to be taken in easily. Ki-Chul had a one-sided crush on Yoo Eun-Jung, who he attended church with as a child, and he still cherishes the necklace she gave him.


When Eun-jung sees him and Joon-mo together, she lets him know that she already knows he's a cop. Seok Do-hyung advises him to keep a close eye on Joon-chul's movements and to act cautiously for Jun-mo's safety.


In the end, Jun-mo acts according to Do-hyung's plan to gain Ki-chul's trust. However, the various conflicts and crises that arise along the way add to the drama's tension. 


Episode 3 of "The Worst Evil" revolves around the complex relationships and conflicts between Ki-chul, Jun-mo, and the other characters around them. The drama portrays the psychology and behavior of each of them in detail. The intense storyline and deep characterization kept me engaged.
